2008 - 2009 Course Descriptions

Mr. Juan Antonio Avila
US History, World History, Government
B.A., St. John's Seminary
M.Ed., NMSU
M.A., NMSU

Originally from Galveston, Texas, I grew up in a small town in New Mexico. I graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy & Theology from St. John's Seminary College in Camarillo, CA. I had the opportunity to study and live abroad in Mexico and in Spain. I returned to the U.S., and enrolled in graduate studies at New Mexico State University and UTEP. I completed a M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction (NMSU), presently a candidate for a PhD. in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Critical Pedagogy. My concentration in History is Southwest & Colonial from the periods of 1550-1889. I have taught for several years with the Gadsden Independent School District in the Mesilla Valley, and two years with the El Paso Community College. I enjoy traveling, researching primary sources from the 1800's, and am presently  working on my dissertation, which revolves around Neo-Liberalism. It is a great opportunity and an honor to be here at El Paso Country Day School! I am very impressed and humbled by the different nationalities here, and I look forward in learning from all of you!
