Dear Zeta and Eta Families,

The Young Man and The Sea culminating projects are AMAZING! They are unique, wonderful, and captured the essence of the story. I am so impressed with the students' work. Their projects are on display in the classroom. The culminating projects varied from dioramas, sculpture, a time line of events artistically displayed, song writing and performance, and a short film! Thank you for helping your child gather the materials they needed for this work. The class is finishing their culminating papers for the novel. They are working diligently editing and revising their papers. We will begin our new novels next week!

Monday, September 29th the Zetas and Etas will go swimming for PE. Monday is the 6th grades' final day of swimming for PE this semester, and we will join them! Please contact me if you do not want your child to swim on Monday. Students will need a swimsuit and towel.

Mrs. Chen and I are noticing that students are hungry in the morning. The class is welcome to snack when they are hungry. Please insure your child is having a substantial breakfast before they arrive to school.

It was delightful to see so many families at the picnic last Friday! It warmed my heart to see our EPCDS high school students playing soccer with the lower school students. My parents were visiting from Wisconsin and enjoyed meeting many of you.

Fall is in the air. With October around the corner I am looking forward to book fair, fall festival, and many more exciting days with the Zetas and Etas!

Warm regards,
Mrs. Freytag

All Sorts of Sorting

http://sweatpea6797.typepad.com/my_thoughtful_spot/images/math.jpg

Purpose: Identifying likenesses and difference

Materials: toys, stuffed animals, books, drawer, contents, pencil/pen, paper

Activities:

·         Collect some stuffed animals or dolls or toys.

Decide in what way some of them are alike.

Put toys that are alike together.

Decide on a different way to organize them: size, color, type, and so on.

Make a new group of toys.

·         Find all the ways you can sort your books: by subject, number of pages, and so on.

·         Make a list of things you have put in each drawer in your bedroom.

Plan a different way to organize them.

Ideas To Talk About

·         How did you sort each type of item?

·         What are some other ways to sort them?

How might sorting help you to become more organized?
