The EPCDS 2008-2009 Math Team took 26 out of 29 possible First Place trophies throughout the year.

We are in the midst of a technological revolution. The foundation for tomorrow's engineers, computer scientists and medical professionals is mathematics. Because of this, the El Paso Country Day School Tradition of Academic Excellence begins with mathematics. Ever since The EPCDS Math Team has competed in city-wide math competitions, it has excelled. Under the leadership of Dr. Leslie Foged, the team has placed first in at least one event in every single tournament it has entered. In the 2008 - 09 Tournament Season, the EPCDS Math Team completely dominated every other high school in El Paso, winning 26 out of a possible 29 first place trophies over 9 citywide tournaments. As you can see in the graphic below EPCDS swept all three major events at almost every single high school math competition in the City of El Paso. In individual competition,  EPCDS 9th graders regularly defeated 11th and 12th graders from schools such as Franklin High School, Coronado High School, Silva Magnet, and more.  This year's math team won three out of four events at Regionals in Midland, Tx, and had three top 10 finishers at State, including EPCDS Senior, Leif F., who won the Texas State Championship in all three major categories and was awarded a college scholarship as a result.

EPCDS takes math education very seriously. See for yourself, below...

EPCDS has adopted the Saxon Math curriculum for elementary and middle school math. Saxon Math is, itself, an advanced curriculum, but EPCDS goes a step further: we teach one full grade level above the standard. This means that by the time EPCDS seniors graduate, they will have completed (and received dual credit for) college calculus.  Many students complete Calculus II.
Dr. Leslie Foged is an Associate Professor of Math at UTEP, coaches the EPCDS math team, and teaches upper division math at EPCDS.

Ms. Fan Chen

Ms. Chen has a Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching Math. This specialized degree is different than a Master's in Math; Ms. Chen's specialty is working with students to teach them how to learn math. Ms. Chen works with both EPCDS Lower School and Upper School students to prepare them for upper division math.
